Saving a VA Mobile App to your Home Screen

 

Most VA Apps that display your personal health information are built like websites to ensure they reach the largest number of platforms, devices and users possible. Because these VA Apps are completely Web-based, no download is required, and none of your VA medical information is stored on your device by any VA App unless you request it. This method also helps save memory on your mobile device, because it uses very few of your device’s resources.

You can easily save a VA App icon to the home screen of your mobile device and access it as you would any other app. Click on the type of mobile device you are using below for instructions.

If your mobile device is not listed below or you have any questions about using your mobile device, please contact your device manufacturer for instructions or to assist with troubleshooting technical issues.

iPhone/iPad

  1. Open Safari, and navigate to the home page of the VA Mobile App you would like to save.
  2. Tap the Export icon at the bottom of the screen (icon of a box with an arrow pointing up). NOTE: This will appear next to the address bar if you are using an iPad.
  3. A slide-out screen will appear that has several options.
  4. Tap Add to Home Screen.
  5. You will be asked to choose a name for the home screen icon. Type the name of the App, and then tap Add.
  6. The App icon will appear on your Home screen. NOTE: the icon that appears on your screen may not be the same as the app icon that appears on the VA App Store.

Android

  1. Open Chrome and navigate to the home page of the VA Mobile App you would like to save.
  2. Tap the Menu button (either on your phone or the settings icon in the upper right corner of your browser).
  3. From the list of options that appears, tap Add to homescreen.
  4. An “Add to homescreen” pop-up with the name of the App auto-populated in the Title text box will appear.
  5. Check that the App name is correct (or type in a new title), and tap Add.
  6. The App icon will appear on your Homescreen. NOTE: the icon that appears on your screen may not be the same as the app icon that appears on the VA App Store.

*Please note that if you are using an operating system older than Android 4.0 or a browser other than Chrome, these instructions may differ.

Windows

Windows Phone:

  1. Open Internet Explorer, and navigate to the home page of the VA Mobile App you would like to save.
  2. Right click or swipe up from the bottom of your screen to pull up the App bar.
  3. Tap the Star icon to create a bookmark.
  4. Tap the Pin icon next to the Star icon and enter the name of the App.
  5. Tap Pin to Start.
  6. The App icon will appear as a tile on your Start screen. NOTE: the icon that appears on your screen may not be the same as the app icon that appears on the VA App Store.

Windows 8, 8.1 and RT Devices:

  1. Open Internet Explorer, and navigate to the home page of the VA Mobile App you would like to save.
  2. Tap More.
  3. Tap Pin to Start in the menu that appears.
  4. The App will appear as a tile on your Start screen. NOTE: the icon that appears on your screen may not be the same as the app icon that appears on the VA App Store.
